artist bio

Bronte Whittle is an emerging artist working on Gadigal land/Sydney. She was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the Macquarie Art Prize and as a finalist in the Waverley 9x5 Landscape Prize and the Harden Art Prize (2024).

Her practice is primarily focused on plein air painting, working from life and immersing herself in the environment across diverse locations including Hill End, desert landscapes, and coastal and suburban Sydney. Working mainly in gouache and oil, she captures the immediate experience of place, light and atmosphere through direct observation.

Bronte also creates larger canvas works that distill the emotional and sensory experience of landscape into expressive, gestural paintings.

Bronte completed her Bachelor of Fine Art from National Art School in 2023 and was awarded the 2024 AACI placement at Ernabella Arts, APY Lands.
